If you are an employee but work from home, do you need a business license or other licenses?

If you are an employee but work from home, do you need a business license or other licenses?

Like I sell a service get commission but am considered an employee of the company I sell for. I work from home doing this. Do I need a business license to do this job legally?

It is odd that you would if you were an independent contractor doing the exact same thing, or so I’ve been told. Odd.

No license is needed, if you are a W-2 employee.

If you are 1099, then you need a license. IRS defines this position as a “captive sub contractor.” A good example is a real estate sales person. They can only work for one broker, but they are paid as a sub contractor.
